The Vampire Diaries’ Ian Somerhalder (Damon) is a winner on so many levels. He’s got brains, brawn, and a mantle lined with his many awards. The Louisiana native can add one more honor to his résumé: He was just named one of Huffington Post’s 2011 Game Changers.
The award honors people who “are changing how we look at the world and the way we live in it” with a “willingness to take risks and question the status quo.” Awards were handed out in 12 different categories, from Business and Tech to Style, and Ian nabbed the top honor in the Green category.
If you know anything about Ian’s off-screen life, this probably comes as no surprise. After creating his own environmental organization —The Ian Somerhalder Foundation — testifying before Congress for animal rights, and mobilizing thousands of fang girls and boys to raise money for animal shelters just this year, we can’t think of anyone more deserving of the title!
Congrats, Ian!
