He rescues kittens, devours humans and runs a pizza parlor.
Meet Ian Somerhalder, aka Damon, the bloodsucker he plays on CW’s The Vampire Diaries (Thursdays, 8 p.m. ET).
Known to some as the first guy to get killed off on Lost and to others, the heartthrob with 950,000 Twitter followers and piercing blue eyes, Somerhalder, 32, is full of surprises. Here’s some of what he told us:
He's a down-home guy.
He modeled starting at age 10, darting from New York to Paris and Milan. But he always cherished his roots in Covington, La. “I’d get off the plane in leather pants and sunglasses, then go cut grass,” Somerhalder says.
He was teased as a kid.
He was taunted by fellow football players at his Catholic school. He recalls “my butch-type buddies calling me a pretty boy.”
He's an environmentalist.
“We humans are like cancers: We multiply and take, take, take. Now I want to give, give, give.”
